Yasmina Platt knew she wanted to become a pilot since flying, as a child, in airliners between the beautiful Canary Islands and mainland Spain. She moved to the United States 20 years ago to achieve her dream.
Obtaining her private pilot certificate while in High School, Ms. Platt is an active pilot and flight instructor (CFI and CFII), rated in single and multi-engine airplanes, seaplanes, and helicopters. She loves teaching and sharing her love of flying with others.
Yasmina also holds a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and a M.S. in Transportation Planning and Management from Texas Southern University (TSU).
Yasmina’s professional career includes soccer management, aircraft sales, transportation research, teaching (ground school, flight training, and college), advocacy, marketing, aviation infrastructure (airport/heliport/vertiport) planning/design, and management. Her understanding of the aviation industry is broad and inclusive since she is an active user of it and has worked for airports/sponsors, subconsultants, consultants, advocates, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and aircraft operators.
Her passion and commitment for aviation is evident in the number of professional credentials that she holds as well as the number of awards she has acquired. Her focus is aviation safety, development, outreach, research, education, and the promotion and protection of aviation.
Yasmina currently works as Joby Aviation's Infrastructure Launch Lead and for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) as a Rusty Pilots instructor. In addition, she also writes columns (on request) for magazines like the Midwest Flyer Magazine.
She is based in Houston, Texas with her husband Jared, a Boeing 777 Captain and GA supporter.
